A Better Future: Schooling for 1000 Children in DRC

Could you imagine being born with no hope of a better future?

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands of children are born orphaned or become orphaned at a young age due to high rates of maternal mortality, AIDs and other epidemic diseases, and years of conflict.

There are an estimated 800,000 orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo (source: UNICEF, 2012), some of which are taken in by their extended families or are taken in by local nuns, often who can manage to house or feed them on their meager salaries but cannot provide for their school fees. Still, many are left to fend for themselves.

Public education is not free or subsidized in the DR Congo, not even for primary school, making it out of reach for most of the population, with around 60% of the population living below the poverty line.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela.

HJ Foundation is a multinational non-governmental organization that operates in India and DR Congo and specializes in health and education, pillars of development.

Our goal is to give these children hope by providing access to an education and, through learning, the chance at a better life.

Help us raise funds to send 1000 children to school this September 2017 and give these children the tools they need to become tomorrow’s leaders!

At $ 90 per child for tuition in the least expensive public schools and $ 50 per child for basic school supplies and a school uniform for 1 year, our goal is to raise $ 140 per child, or $ 140,000 in total for the 1000 children we seek to educate.

If you help us reach our fundraising goal, in addition to sending 1000 children to school, HJ Foundation will make a donation of the construction of a health center or primary schools in a rural area.

If you sponsor $ 140 for a child, we will send you their picture, progress report during the year and grades at the end of term, so that you can accompany them in their development.
